END TABLE SUBWOOFER

Challenge

Create a subwoofer that not only sounds great, but also looks nice in the living room.

Solution

A 15” driver was chosen for it’s proven performance and affordable pricepoint. The driver was then software modeled to determine the appropriate size cabinet and amplifier. Working within the constraints of the required cabinet volume, it was decided that a cube would be desirable. A custom cabinet was crafted out of ¾” MDF. To minimize deflection, the driver baffle is comprised of two layers of ¾” MDF and internal cabinet bracing was added. Finally, the cabinet was given a piano black lacquer finish. The speaker was then acoustically measured to confirm it is performing as designed.

Result

A subwoofer that more closely resembles a piece of furniture was easily integrated into the living space. The ability to choose the cabinet design (width, height and depth) allows flexibility given the existing decor.
